In December 1968 the first image taken of the earth from space was published. The "earthrise" image, showing our planet hanging precariously over a barren lunar plane, has been credited with sparking a new way of thinking about ecology, the environment, and the fragile place humanity holds in the universe. Since then, innovators, inventors, and activists have pushed boundaries by looking at big problems with a new perspective.
